Installing Wood Siding Part 1: Shingle/Shake Siding
Step 1: Work your way form the bottom up, starting at the lowest point possible. Staple a sheet then individually attach the shakes or shingles fat end facing down across the row at the bottom. Now use the siding nails to ensue that the shingle is secured the nail must be driven in the top half of the shake or shingle.
Step 2: Place felt at the next level on the wall; ensure that it over laps the previous shingle by about 1/3 of its height. Continue with a new row covering about half of the previous row with over lapping shingle; now firmly secure them with the nail.
Step 3: Continue with step tow until you get to the top of the wall once there you will need to place a 1X8 Inch board crest.
Installing Wood Siding Part 2: Board and Batten Style Siding
Step 1: Staple felt over the complete surface of the wall.
Step 2: Working from the center out attach 1x8inch boards distance should be 1/8 of an inch this distance will give enough room for expansion to the corner of the building. Seal the1/8 inch seams with 1x3 inch or 1x4 inch batten boards use enough nails to ensure installation is firm, place battens over all seams straight to the house side.
Step 3: Place a single 1/6 inch batten board for finishing the edges along the corners this must be done to the whole house.
